Loose Teeth
Loose teeth in adults are a direct result of advanced periodontal disease.
Advanced periodontal disease is the chronic inflammation of gum tissue combined with deep bone and gum tissue loss. Periodontal pockets will have grown beyond 6mm. At this stage of gum disease, the body, through a process known as “Host Response,” will literally assist the gum infection by ejecting the infected tooth from the body.
Only eliminating subgingival tartar, keeping destructive bacteria to small numbers and controlling infection can save teeth at this point.
Subgingival tartar can be eliminated via dissolution with Periogen® use when applied with a subgingival applicator on a daily or twice daily regime.
Periogen® kills all destructive bacteria it comes in contact with during each application; keeping bacteriological colonies to a minimum and thus preventing further damage to bone and gum tissue.
Periogen® use will gradually eliminate infection and decrease Host Response. This can be augmented with a brief Amoxicillin series prescribed by your dentist for severe infection.
Following that, a more long term twice-a-day Doxycycline (20 mg) series will assist in the suppression of Host Response as loose teeth settle back in to the remaining bone and gum structure.
Success with these procedures may take many forms.
In the best case scenario, the sudden onset of a loose tooth followed by timely Periogen® treatment may result in complete recovery, with the tooth being saved without the need for further procedures.
In the worst case scenario, following Periogen® treatment for a long term, or chronic, loose tooth, there may not be enough bone structure left for the tooth to be used comfortably for chewing.
Many scenarios will fall in-between these two. If, after following the guidelines outlined above, a Periogen® treated tooth has not reached a level of acceptable comfort, there exists an effective non-surgical follow-on procedure, known as RPE.
