Periodontist
A periodontist is a dentist that has completed an additional 3 years of specialty training in gum disorders. Periodontists use root planing and scaling to scrape tartar from below the gum line. To gain access to tartar, periodontists may perform what is known as “flap surgery” in which gums are surgically peeled back so that tartar can be seen. After root planing and scaling, the gums are then stitched back together.
Periogen can be used at home in lieu of these procedures to dissolve tartar.
