Receding Gums

Receding Gums

Gum recession is caused by advanced gum disease. When gingivitis goes untreated, gum disease, also called periodontitis, will cause gums to pull away from the teeth, and leave deep pockets opened where bacteria can grow and damage the bone and roots of teeth. It will lead to clinical complications like sensitivity, aesthetics issues and root exposures. The prominent causes of gingival gum recession are genetics, aggressive tooth brushing, improper dental care, hormonal changes, piercings, tobacco and teeth grinding. The receding gums can be corrected by periodontal plastic surgeries such as free tissue grafts, connective tissue grafts and pedicle grafts.
